I feel like there are two types of people when it comes to selecting music for their wedding day. The ones who know exactly what they want and probably selected their song choices for walking down the aisle six months before saying “I Do”. Or, there are the people who have no idea where to begin and turn to google to give them direction when choosing a song. Maybe that is how you stumbled upon us!
Before diving in head first on finding your ceremony music, the decision of live music vs. recorded music needs to be made. It will affect your song selections to a certain extent. If you are wanting live music at your ceremony, reach out to your planner and ask them for recommendations. Once that decision has been made, you are ready to move forward.
For music played by your DJ, you need to decide if you want instrumental music or music with lyrics. Everyone will have their own preference on this, but at the end of the day it is your choice. I do like to remind couples that this should not be a last minute decision, or something grabbed off the radio when jamming out the week before your wedding. When you are walking down the aisle you want something that is timeless.
Next, know that there are multiple variations of instrumental songs. One version can be played by a piano and guitar, and another by a string quartet. Both songs are going to be beautiful, but what works best with your setting? Is your environment traditional or not? When working with a DJ, he/she should be able to provide you with different versions of the songs so that you can find the one that best suits you.
